SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College sophomore Robert Smith/Hampton was selected to the 2017-18 All-Region 10 Men's Basketball First Team, classmate Tim Bing Jr./Suitland, Maryland was named to the All-Region Second Team, and sophomore Stanley Taylor/Petersburg was named to the All-Region Third Team.  The Statesmen program, coached by fifth-year head coach Chuck Moore, has now had 14 All-Region selections over the past five years.

"These three sophomores have worked hard and deserve all the recognition from the conference and its coaches," said Moore.  "They have continued the tradition of our program and all three will continue their playing careers after RBC.  I will truly miss coaching them next year!"

Smith, a 6-4 guard, has started 25 of 28 games during the regular season and averaged 17.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 24.6 minutes.  He has shot 44% (176-405) from the field, including 31% (42-134) on three-point field goals, and 62% (89-144) at the free throw line, adding 20 steals and 13 blocks.  Smith is the team leader in points (483), scoring average, field goals, three-pointers, free throws, free throw attempts and minutes (690).  He posted career-highs of 31 points against NJCAA Division I Cape Fear (N.C.) on November 15, and 12 rebounds against Division I Clinton (S.C.) on Nov. 1.  Smith has a team-best 24 double-figure scoring games, including a team-best two 30-point games among a team-best 11 20-point efforts, along with two double-figure rebounding games for two double-doubles.

Bing, a 6-2 guard, has started 26 of 28 games and averaged 11.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 24.2 minutes.  He has shot 43% (104-242) from the field, including 42% (35-83) on three-pointers, and 73% (67-92) at the line, adding 51 steals.  Bing is the team leader in three-point percentage and starts.  He tied a career-high 21 points against Catawba Valley (N.C.) on December 2, and had a season-high 10 assists against Guilford Tech (N.C.) on January 27.  Bing has 15 double-figure scoring games, including three 20-point games, and has 11 games with at least five assists.

Taylor, a 6-7 forward, has started 24 of 27 games and averaged 10.1 points, 7.3 rebounds and 21.7 minutes.  He has shot 56% (115-207) from the field, including 36% (9-25) on three-pointers, and 71% (35-49) at the line, adding 25 steals, 21 assists and seven blocks.  Taylor is the team leader in field goal percentage, rebounds (196), offensive rebounds (83) and defensive rebounds (113).  He posted career-highs of 30 points against Vance-Granville (N.C.) on Nov. 20, and 17 rebounds two times, most recently against Wake Tech (N.C.) on Feb. 17.  Taylor has 12 double-figure scoring games, including the one 30-point game among three 20-point games.  He was selected as the NJCAA Division II National Player of the Week for the period Nov. 20-26.

Bryant & Stratton sophomore guard Jordan Forbes (15.6 points, 10.4 rebounds, 5.3 assists) was selected as the Region 10 Player of the Year, while Bobcats head coach Cliff Coleman was named the Coach of the Year.  B&S finished as the regular season runners-up with an overall record of 19-9, including 15-5 in the region.

The selections were announced ahead of this weekend's Region 10 Tournament being hosted by Richard Bland on March 3-4 at Statesman Hall.  The No. 3 Statesmen (20-8, 14-6) will play either No. 6 Wake Tech or No. 11 Vance-Granville in a tournament quarterfinal contest on Sunday, March 4, at 4 p.m.
