Men’s Basketball Goes 2-0 On The Weekend

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team moves to 5-6 overall, 2-0 in conference after hosting USC Salkehatchie Saturday afternoon, and Denmark Technical College Sunday afternoon.

 

On Saturday, the Statesmen pulled off a 67-59 win to open conference play. Richard Bland trailed by three at the break, but went on to outscore USC Salkehatchie by 11 in the second half to hold on for the win. Martin Kawa led the way with 23 points, four rebounds, three steals, two assists, and two blocks. Larry Howell tallied his second double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds. He also added three assists and two blocks. Mekhi Phipps-Dedrick chipped in with 12 points, four rebounds, four assists, and one steal. Off the bench, Tim Robinson was credited with nine points, eight rebounds, and four steals in the win.

 

Richard Bland shot 36.9% from the charity stripe, 66.7% from the field, and 25.0% from the perimeter.

 

On Sunday, the Statesmen pulled off a 79-74 win in the overtime thriller. Richard Bland led by 10 at the half mark, but Denmark made up the difference in the second half to push the game into overtime. The Statesmen pushed the tempo and went on to seal the win by five at the final buzzer. Brandon Hendryx tallied his first double-double of the season with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Kawa was credited 2ith 18 points, six rebounds, six assists, two steals, and one block. Howell added 11 points, nine rebounds, three steals, two blocks, and one assist, while Ibrahim Kourouma tallied 10 points, four rebounds, two assists, and one block.

 

Richard Bland shot 43.8% from the charity stripe, 66.7% from the field, and 31.8% from the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College men's basketball team next travels to Washington Adventist University for a nonconference contest with the jv squad. Tip-off is set for 6pm on Wednesday, December 6th.
