Men’s Basketball Downs the Shock, Drops Conference Contest to Sea Devils

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team moves to 6-7 overall, 2-1 in conference after traveling to Washington Adventist University JV and hosting Cape Fear Community College Saturday afternoon.

 

Wednesday evening, the Statesmen pulled off a 99-68 victory over the Shock on the road. Richard Bland led 44-30 at the break and would go on to outscore Washington Adventist 55-38 to bring home the win. Martin Kawa led the way with 26 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Mekhi Phipps-Dedrick added 21 points, seven assists, seven steals, and four rebounds. Larry Howell chipped in with 16 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals, while Ibrahim Kourouma had 13 points, four rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Off the bench, Jalen Smith was credited with 11 points and two rebounds.

 

Richard Bland shot 86.7% from the charity stripe, 58.0% from the field, and 66.7% from the perimeter.

 

Saturday afternoon, Richard Bland battled with the Sea Devils of Cape Fear Community College, eventually falling 76-85 at the final buzzer. Richard Bland led by one, 42-41, at the end of the first half but would be outscored by 10 in the second half to drop the conference contest to the Sea Devils. Kawa led the offense with 21 points and also brought down six rebounds. Brandon Hendryx chipped in with 16 points, nine rebounds, and one assist, while Larry Howell had 12 points, one steal, and one block. Tim Robinson added 10 points and one block in the loss.

 

Richard Bland shot 92.9% from the charity stripe, 50.0% from the field, and 7.7% from the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College men's basketball team next travels to the Atlantic Shoes Christian School on Wednesday, December 13th for a matchup with the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton College (VA). Tip-off is set for 7pm.
