Howell Tallies Sixth Double-Double in Conference Loss

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team moves to 10-13 overall, 5-5 in conference play after hosting the Eagles of Wake Technical Community College Wednesday evening in a tough conference battle.

 

Martin Kawa got the Statesmen on the board with an and-one layup, following a mid-range bucket and layup from the Eagles to start the game. Richard Bland held as much as a 10 point lead in the first half, but the Eagles came back to take a five point, 42-47 lead before the break. Richard Bland scored 34 points in the second half, but it was not enough as they fell at the final buzzer.

 

Four Statesmen had double-digit figures in the loss led by Kawa with 21 points, six rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Mekhi Phipps-Dedrick tallied 16 points, six rebounds, six assists, three steals, and one block. Larry Howell tallied his sixth double-double of the season with 12 points, 10 rebounds, two steals, and one block. Imani Anderson chipped in with six points and four rebounds, while Jalen Smith added five points and three rebounds, and Rodney Willis Jr. four points and three rebounds.

 

Richard Bland went 82.6% from the charity stripe, 38.8% from the field, and 20.8% from the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College men's basketball team next travels to Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute on Friday, February 9th at 6pm. The Statesmen will continue the road trip and meet the Pioneers of Spartanburg Methodist College on Sunday, February 11th in a 1pm conference contest.
