Kawa Has Big Weekend in Men’s Hoops

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team moves to 11-14 overall, 6-6 in conference play after traveling to Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute Friday afternoon, and Spartanburg Methodist College Sunday afternoon.

 

On Friday, the Cobras jumped out to an early 28-47 lead over the Statesmen at the break. In a strong second half, Richard Bland added 50 points, but it was not enough as the Statesmen fell 78-98 in the conference contest.

 

Three Statesmen had double-digit figures in the loss led by Martin Kawa with 19 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and one steal. Tim Robinson tallied this second double-double of the season with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and one block. Larry Howell chipped in with 14 points, four rebounds, two steals, and one block. Ibrahim Kourouma and Jalen Smith added eight points each, and three and five rebounds respectively. Off the bench, Imani Anderson, Kahihl Venable, and Avanti Hunter had five, four, and two points for the Statesmen.

 

Richard Bland went 68.4% from the charity stripe, 38.5% from the field, and 30.8% from the perimeter.

 

On Sunday, Richard Bland tallied an early nine point lead into halftime, 45-36, over the Pioneers of Spartanburg Methodist College. The Pioneers went on to outscore the Statesmen in the second half by three, but Richard Bland held on for the win in the 89-83 down to the wire thriller.

 

Three Statesmen had double-digit figures in the win, led by Kawa with 34 points, six rebounds, six assists, and one steal. Kourouma tallied 20 points, four assists, three rebounds, and one steal. Howell added 17 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Tim Robinson chipped in with nine points and three rebounds, while Jalen Smith was credited with five points and five rebounds, and Imani Anderson with four points and three rebounds.

 

Richard Bland went 76.0% from the charity stripe, 60.0% from the field, and 55.6% from the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College men's basketball team next hosts Gaston College on Thursday, February 15th at 7pm following the women's basketball game.
