Men’s Basketball Earns Big Conference Victory on Sophomore Night

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team moves to 12-14 overall, 7-6 in conference play after hosting Gaston College Thursday evening. Prior to the game, the men's basketball program recognized Martin Kawa, Larry Howell, Ibrahim Kourouma, Avanti Hunter, Kahihl Venable, and Tim Robinson for their contributions to the Richard Bland men's basketball program.

 

On Thursday, the Statesmen jumped out to an early 34-31 lead over the Rhinos at the break. In a strong second half, Richard Bland added 40 more points, outscoring the Rhinos by two, to hold on for the 74-69 conference win.

 

Three Statesmen had double-digit figures in the win led by Ibrahim Kourouma with 22 points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Martin Kawa followed closely behind with 20 points, four rebounds and three steals. Larry Howell added 13 points, four rebounds, four steals, and one assist. Tim Robinson chipped in with 11 rebounds, nine points, and one steal, and Jalen Smith tallied seven points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Rodney Willis Jr. added two points, and Jordan Brown one in the conference win.

 

Richard Bland went 61.1% from the charity stripe, 43.5% from the field, and 39.1% from the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College men's basketball team next travels to Cape Fear Community College on Friday, March 1st at 7pm.
