Turnovers Prove Costly in Men’s Basketball Weekend Action

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team moves to 12-16 overall, 7-8 in conference play after traveling to Cape Fear Community College Friday evening, and Brunswick Community College Sunday afternoon.

 

On Friday, the Sea Devils jumped out to an early, two point lead heading into halftime. Richard Bland showed out strong in the second half adding 36 points, but it was not enough as the Statesmen fell 63-67.

 

Four Statesmen had double-digit figures in the loss led by Larry Howell with 18 points, six rebounds, three assists, and one block. Martin Kawa chipped in with his second double-double of the season at 15 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Ibrahim Kourouma added 11 points, seven rebounds, and one assist, while Tim Robinson had 10 points, nine rebounds, and two steals. Jalen Smith tallied seven points, six rebounds, and one steal on the night, and Rodney Willis Jr. was credited with two points and two rebounds.

 

Richard Bland went 62.5% from the charity stripe, 37.5% from the field, and 25.0% from the perimeter.

 

On Saturday, Richard Bland took control early on taking a 44-38 lead into the break against the Dolphins of Brunswick Community College. The battle continued in the second half as the Dolphins edged the Statesmen by 12 points, to hold on for the 74-80 conference victory.

 

Four Statesmen had double-digit figures in the loss led by Howell with 20 points, seven rebounds, and one assist. Kawa pitched in with 18 points, two assists, and one rebound, while Kourouma had 14 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Tim Robinson tallied his third double-double of the season with 13 rebounds, 11 points, two steals, and one assist. Off the bench, Willis Jr. chipped in with six points, Smith tallied three, and Kahihl Venable two in the loss.

 

Richard Bland went 68.4% from the charity stripe, 51.0% from the field, and 52.9% from the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College men's basketball team next travels to Gaston College on Wednesday, March 6th for their final regular season game. Tip-off at Ashbrook High School is set for 7pm.
