ALMARODE JOINS THE STATESMEN AS RBC FIRST MALE GOLFER

PETERSBURG, Va. – A third golfer and first male athlete with years of experience from Hendersonville, Tenn., has joined the 2015-16 Richard Bland College golf team under the leadership of Coach Dr. Shawn Holt.

William Zachary Almarode, a multi-sport athlete and former graduate of Cosby High School (Midlothian, VA), signed his letter of intent on Thursday afternoon. Almarode joins signees Anna Carole Cole (Halifax, VA) and Motoaca High School product April Lessard.

"We are happy to have Zach come to the program, with his 15 years of golf experience I have no doubt he will bring some maturity to the program," said Holt. "With his ability to play as a left hander and having him as our first male golfer signee puts the program in good shape."

While planning to major in business, the left-hander decided to extend his golfing career while starting his education at RBC next fall.

In high school, Almarode was the Physical Education Student of the Year and a member of the BETA Club.

Prior to signing, Almarode worked at the Long Hollow Golf Course in Gallatin, Tenn., for three years where he worked on his game.

"I am happy to be back home in Virginia and be the first male athlete in the history of Richard Bland College," added Almarode. "I'm thankful for the opportunity not only to play golf but to further my education at a great institution."

Practice will begin for the Statesmen in August at the Country Club of Petersburg.
