SOCCER TRAVELS TO CAPE FEAR ON SATURDAY FOR KEY CONFERENCE X GAME

PETERSBURG, Va., (Sept. 4, 2015) – Riding the crest of a 4-3 overtime victory over Wake Technical Community College on Wednesday afternoon, the Richard Bland College men's soccer team will conclude a rigorous stretch of games that saw the Statesmen play seven contests in a 17-day period, with a Conference X match against Cape Fear Community College on Saturday, September 5 at 2:00 p.m.

WHO: Richard Bland College vs. Cape Fear Community College
WHERE: Wilmington, N.C.
WHEN: September 5 at 2:00 p.m.
SITE: Cape Fear

RECORDS: Richard Bland is 4-2, 2-2, with victories over the University of South Carolina Lancaster (2-0), Union County College (4-2), Bluefield College (5-1) and most recently Wake Technical 4-3 in overtime … The Sea Devils of Cape Fear are 4-0, 1-0, with victories over Union County College (4-1), College of Southern Maryland (3-2), Northern Virginia Community College (2-1) and most recently USC Lancaster (4-3) on Thursday.

LAST SEASON VS. CAPE FEAR: The Statesmen lost both matches to the Sea Devils last year, though the results were decidedly different in the second contest … On September 4, Richard Bland lost 5-0 on the road … Hosting Cape Fear on October 21, the Statesmen fell 3-2 … In that contest, then-freshman Godfred Baisel (Nairobi, Kenya/Patriot), tallied both of his teams goals as the upset-minded Statesmen took a 2-1 lead over a talented Cape Fear team.

WHAT'S NEXT: The Statesmen will have a much-needed week off, not back in action for seven days before hosting University of South Carolina Salkehatchie on Sunday, September 13 at 1:00 p.m. … Cape Fear travels to Wake Tech for an 8:30 p.m. contest on Wednesday, September 9.

LAST TIME OUT: On Wednesday afternoon, the Statesmen weathered two game delays due to lightning threats and fought off a persistent Wake Tech team to earn a 4-3 overtime victory … In a game that saw three lead changes, Richard Bland got the game winning goal from freshman back Rodrigo Carvalho (Lisbon, Portugal/Quinta do Marques) 5:30 into overtime off a corner kick initiated by freshman winger Carlos Cason (Richmond, VA/J.R. Tucker) ... It was the hustling play of Cason, a 5-foot-1 dynamo, who provided Richard Bland with an abundance of energy throughout the game ... Not to be overlooked was a two goal performance by freshman forward Sukrija Dudic (Srebrenica, Bosnia Hercegovina/Hermitage) who tallied one goal in each half ... Freshman forward Miguel Ramos scored the game winning goal for the Sea Devils with five minutes remaining, as Cape Fear Community College earned a 4-3 road win at USC-Lancaster on Thursday night.

FROM COACH EDUARDO DE SOUZA: "Cape Fear is a good team, a very strong team," said head coach Eduardo de Souza. "They have a strong tradition in the conference and it will be another hard task for us. It's an away game, and we will have to show the same resiliency we had against Wake Tech versus Cape Fear. We're going to have to work hard and play team soccer to win."

LEADING SCORERS: Dudic and Baisel lead the team with four goals, with sophomore Eduardo Quintanilla (San Salvador, El Salvador/Stonewall Jackson) second with three goals.
