Richard Bland Welcomes Spartanburg Methodist Sunday Afternoon

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. – Richard Bland College will host Spartanburg Methodist (S.C.) College in Region X men's soccer action on Sunday afternoon, August 28, at Statesman Field beginning at 2 p.m.  The Statesmen (1-0) will be looking for their second-straight win to open the campaign against the visiting Pioneers (0-0), who will be playing their first regular season contest.  Admission is free to all RBC men's soccer home matches.

Scouting the Statesmen
RBC is 1-0 overall, including 1-0 in Region X, after its season-opening 3-2 home victory past Wake Tech (N.C.) Community College on August 25.  The Statesmen are coached by head coach Eduardo de Souza, who is in his third season, while assisted by first-year assistant coach Nick Surkamp.

Scouting the Pioneers
SMC is playing its first regular season contest.  The Pioneers are coached by head coach Kevin Nolan, who is in his second season.

Series History
SMC leads the all-time series against RBC, 6-1.  The Statesmen, however, won the most recent match between the two schools, 3-2, last September 19, 2015 in South Carolina.

Last Time Out
RBC scored two second-half goals for the come-from-behind triumph against Wake Tech.  Sophomore Sukrija Dudic/Richmond scored the game-winning goal in the 63rd minute to lead the Statesmen, while classmate Sebastian Hendi/Alexandria and freshman Reuben Bosompem/Alexandria each added goals, as well, in the Region X match.  Sophomores Rodrigo Carvalho/Lisbon, Portugal and Jeffrey Pineda/Los Angeles, Calif., along with freshman Peter Diawuo/Alexandria, each added assists to the victory.  Freshman goalkeeper Justin Ennis/Gainesville played the second half and recorded two saves and yielding no goals over the final 45 minutes.  Classmate Tomas Fonseca/Torres Vedras started in front of the net and played the first 45 minutes while making one save and allowing the two goals.

RBC will play its third consecutive home match to open the season against Frederick (Md.) Community College on Wednesday, August 31 at 4 p.m., before traveling to Cape Fear (N.C.) Community College on Saturday, September 3 at 4 p.m. for its first road contest of 2016.
