Richard Bland Hosting North Carolina Wesleyan On Tuesday

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. – Richard Bland College will play its only home match of the week against the North Carolina Wesleyan College reserve team on Tuesday afternoon, September 13, at Statesman Field beginning at 4 p.m. The Statesmen (3-3) will be looking for their fourth win of the season against the visiting Battling Bishops (0-0). Admission is free to all RBC men's soccer home matches.

Scouting the Statesmen
RBC is 3-3 overall, including 2-3 in Region X, following a 3-2 road setback at Spartanburg Methodist (S.C.) College on Sept. 10. The Statesmen are coached by head coach Eduardo de Souza, who is in his third season, while assisted by first-year assistant coach Nick Surkamp. RBC has been led in scoring through six matches by sophomore Sebastian Hendi/Alexandria with four goals for eight points, followed by classmate Sukrija Dudic/Richmond and freshman Eduardo Pessoa/Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with two goals and four points apiece. Sophomore Rodrigo Carvalho/Lisbon, Portugal, along with freshmen Reuben Bosompem/Alexandria and Miguel Ramos/Casal de Cambra, Portugal, each add one goal and one assist for three points. Freshman keeper Justin Ennis/Gainesville has started five of six matches in front of the net, playing 467:58 with one shutout, a 1.15 goals against average and 18 saves for a save percentage of .750 percent.

Scouting the Battling Bishops
NCWC is playing the first of its seven scheduled reserve team matches this season. The Battling Bishops are coached by head coach Frankie Taal, who is in his sixth season, while assisted by Ryan Huber. The NCAA Division III program features 44 team members listed on its 2016 roster, including 17 international-based student-athletes.

Series History
This is the first-ever meeting between the two schools in the sport of men's soccer.

Last Time Out
Hendi and Pessoa each scored second-half goals, but RBC dropped a 3-2 Region X road decision at Spartanburg Methodist in South Carolina. Ramos and freshman Danny Torres/Bucaramga, Columbia each added assists for the visiting Statesmen against the Pioneers. Ennis started and played the entire 90 minutes in front of the net for RBC, recording five saves while yielding the three goals.

Up Next
RBC will play its third road match of the campaign at Region X rival Patrick Henry Community College on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 5:30 p.m. in Martinsville. The Statesmen will remain on the road next week to play at Region X opponent Wake Technical Community College on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 1:30 p.m. in Raleigh, North Carolina.
