Richard Bland Names Dusan Stankovic Athlete of the Week

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. – Richard Bland College freshman men's soccer midfielder Dusan Stankovic/Belgrade, Serbia has been named the Athletics Department's Athlete of the Week for the period September 27-October 4. He scored two goals along with one assist during a 4-3 upset win at home past nationally-ranked No. 13 Patrick Henry Community College on Oct. 1, and followed that effort with two assists during a 4-0 home shutout against Cape Fear (N.C.) Community College on Oct. 4. Through 13 matches, Stankovic ranks second in scoring for the Statesmen (8-4-1, 5-4-1 Region X) with four goals and four assists totaling 12 points. He has helped Richard Bland to three-straight wins and a 5-1-1 record over its last seven matches.

Q: How does it feel to be named Richard Bland Athlete of the Week? 
DS: I am extremely blessed to be named as the Athlete of the Week, and I feel very proud about this honor.

Q: How did you get started in your sport and how long have you played? 
DS: Soccer is my lifestyle. I started to play the sport when I was very young, and I have been dedicated to it ever since. I have been playing soccer for 15 years.

Q: What do you like most about your team? 
DS: I love the spirit of being a family that we have ... our relationships among each other are reciprocal. We are really like a big family.

Q: Who is your funniest teammate/why? 
DS: Hussein (Osman) is the funniest teammate. When he starts to yell or sing, people are running all over campus trying to avoid listening to his funny voice ...

Q: Do you have any pregame rituals/superstitions? 
DS: I drink a lot of water and stretch. I like it to be quiet, with no music, so that I can focus better on the game.

Q: What is your favorite place on campus/why? 
DS: Statesman Field and the weight training room in Statesman Hall. These are the places where I make my progress.

Q: What is your favorite class/professor/why? 
DS: Definitely Troy Bupp (Associate Professor of Mathematics). He is very dedicated to his job and does everything he can so students can become better in math. He is also full of enthusiasm, and because of that, his classes are very interesting.
