Statesmen Upend USC Sumter, 4-0

The Richard Bland College of William & Mary men's soccer team defeated USC Sumter 4-0 this afternoon at Statesman Soccer Field.

With this victory, the Statesmen improved to 13-2-2 for the season. Next up for the Statesmen will be USC Salkehatchie at the Statesman Soccer Field for a 4 pm kickoff on Saturday, October 20. This will be the Statesmen's final regular season game and prior to kickoff all seven sophomores will be recognized in a brief ceremony.

The Statesmen open the scoring in the 18th minute when freshman David Guerrero guided his shot past the USC keeper who fumbled the initial corner kick . In the 25th minute, the Statesmen doubled its lead when freshman Max Schoebel guided his head shot past USC's keeper off a left side corner kick by freshman Hector Rivera. It took the Statesmen three minutes later in the 28th minute to make it a 3-0 lead when freshman Antonio Ferreira received a loose ball on top of the USC's 18 yard box before he blasted his shot to the left of the goalie. This is how the first half ended.

It took 45 seconds at the start of the second half for the Statesmen to extend its lead to 4-0 when freshman Armando Mondragon received a well placed through pass down the middle of the USC defense before he calmly took a shot and placed it past the USC goalie. This is how the game ended.
