Men's Soccer Blanks USC Union In Home Opener

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William and Mary Men's Soccer team moves to 1-0 after their first game of the 2021 season.

 

The men's soccer team hosted USC Union this afternoon in their 2021 season opener.

 

The game was held even until the 19th minute, when Julian Rivera struck one between the pipes assisted by Moses Mora. Following Rivera, Michael Afful added a tally off a touch from Andrew Retmier 4 minutes later. At the end of the first half, the Statesmen led 2-0.

 

As the second half began, Richard Bland showed a great deal of pressure on the opponents' defensive line. In the 66th minute, Nolan Wyss struck one from Andrew Retmier and Tyriq Amos, followed by his second tally just 4 minutes after.

 

As the momentum continued for the Statesmen, Moses Mora added his own marker off a pass from Nelsar Castillo while Michael Afful rounded out the attack with the final goal of the match in the 73rd minute.

 

Cristian Rodriguez earned the shutout in net with 3 saves on the day.

 

Richard Bland men's soccer next plays Friday, September 10 against USC Salkehatchie at 12pm in Allendale, SC.
