Men's Soccer Downs USC Sumter

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William and Mary Men's Soccer team moves to 2-1 after their third game of the 2021 season.

 

The men's soccer team traveled to USC Sumter this afternoon for a conference matchup.

 

The game was held even until the 25th minute, when Nelsar Castillo reached the back of the net for the Statesmen. The score remained 1-0 Statesmen through the rest of the first half.

 

As the second half began, play moved back and forth. In the 65th minute, Michael Afful notched his 4th goal of the season to bring the Statesmen up 2-0. With 6 minutes remaining, Sumter reached the back of the net for the final marker of the day, to make it 2-1 Statesmen through regulation.

 

Cristian Rodriguez was credited with 7 saves in the win. Afful had 3 shots, Josemaria Acosta Bello 2, and Matthew McQueen and Jaden Tillman 1 each.

 

Richard Bland men's soccer next plays Saturday, September 18, home against Spartanburg Methodist College at 2pm.
