Afful Scores Hat Trick in Win Over Union

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William and Mary Men's Soccer team moves to 7-2-1 overall and 7-2 in conference play after their tenth game of the 2021 season.

 

The men's soccer team traveled USC Union for a conference match this morning.

 

Julian Rivera was the first to strike on the day with an unassisted goal in the 36th minute. In the 40th minute, Union found the back of the net to level the score 1-1 heading into halftime.

 

Putting the Statesmen ahead 2-1, Matthew Lewis added a marker in the 50th minute, followed by Nolan Wyss less than a minute later, to bring the Statesmen ahead, 3-1. Moses Mora added a tally in the 53rd minute, Mathew Lewis added his second on the day in the 57th minute, and Michael Afful found the back of the net in the 60th minute. Union fought back and added a second tally to bring the score 6-2 Statesmen, but it wouldn't be enough. Michael Afful added 2 more tallies for a hat trick to end regulation, 8-2 Statesmen.

 

Cristian Rodriguez and Zachary Degrauwe were credited with 3 saves each.
