Men’s Soccer Crowned Region 10 Champions Third Year in a Row

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The #1 seeded Richard Bland College men's soccer team moves to 13-3-3 overall after hosting the #3 seeded USC Lancaster Lancers in the Region 10 Division I Championship Saturday afternoon.

 

In their first meeting of the season, the Statesmen earned a 2-2 draw. In the second meeting, the Statesmen struggled on the road, falling 0-2 to the Lancers, however in their third meeting of the season, the Statesmen prevailed taking down the Lancers 1-0 to be named Region 10 Champions.

 

The Statesmen and Lancers battled back and forth and were scoreless through the first 45 minutes of play. 12 minutes into the second half, Nicholas Ihnat sealed the win for Richard Bland on a header off a cross, outside of the 18 yard box by Samir Spaulding. Richard Bland held on for the 1-0 win and were crowned the Region 10 Division I Men's Soccer Champions for the third year in a row!

 

Thomas Seymour earned the start in net for the Statesmen. He was credited with nine saves, including a penalty kick, in regulation. Richard Bland had 14 shots on the day, 12 on goal.

 

The Richard Bland men's soccer team next hosts the Southeast District Championship on Saturday, November 4th. The Statesmen will welcome Eastern Florida State College for a spot in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament. Kickoff time will be announced soon.
