STATESMEN DOMINATES GULLS IN BOTH GAMES

SALUDA, VA, March 16, 2014-An impressive two-way performance from McKenzie Love led RBC Statesmen to a 18-1 win Sunday over Rappahannock, as McKenzie came up huge at the dish and on the rubber.

Love racked up four RBIs on three hits for RBC Statesmen. She singled in the second and third innings and tripled in the fifth inning.

Rappahannock had no answer for Love, who kept runners off the basepaths in her appearance. Love gave up just two hits, allowed one earned run, walked none and struck out five during her five innings of work.

The offense exploded for the Richard Bland in the fifth. In the inning the Statesmen scored 12 runs.

The game's last lead went to RBC Statesmen thanks to a third inning rally that saw five runs cross the plate on an RBI double by Rebecca Condrey, an error, a sacrifice fly by Mary Latham, and an RBI single by McKenzie.​

Other offensive highlights included sophomore Sierra Ford going 3 for 5 and freshman Taylor Slate going 3 for 4.

GAME TWO 

The Statesmen beat Rappahannock 13-3 in five innings in the second game after a seven-run explosion in the fourth inning.

Mary Latham had two extra-base hits for the Statesmen. She doubled in the first inning and tripled in the fourth inning.

Tara Heatwole got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. She allowed three runs over five innings. She struck out eight, walked none and surrendered seven hits.

Ayannah Bowman-WilliamsKrysten DavisMcKenzie Love and Latham helped lead the offense. They combined for seven hits and seven RBIs.

Richard Bland went up for good in the first, scoring two runs on an RBI double by Davis and a groundout by Bowman-Williams.

The Statesmen matched its one-run second inning with one more in the third. In the second, the Statesmen scored on a groundout by Meredith Lee, plating Jordan Byrd.
