SOFTBALL BEGINS SIX-GAME HOME STRETCH THURSDAY

PETERSBURG, Va.  – The Richard Bland Statesmen softball team is back at home Thursday, March 19 to welcome the College of St. Joseph (Vermont) at Statesmen Softball Field, for a four-game non-conference series. The Statesmen are coming off a 5-4, 9-3 sweep of Southeastern Community College of Whiteville on March 13 and are looking to extend its six-game win streak.

 

The game is the first meeting between the two teams ever in program history. Live stats will be provided on rbcathletics.com.

 

Richard Bland (7-6 Overall, 4-0 Region X) are paced by Southampton High School product Haley Boykin at the plate with a .667 batting average while Kim Ellis (L.C. Bird) and Whitney Clements (Prince George) are hitting a .417 and .385 clip.

 

Amelia, Va., native Amanda Archer has two homeruns on the season and a team-high 10 RBI. Jamestown High School product, Tara Heatwole is 3-2 at the mound for the Statesmen on the year and holds a 2.438 ERA going into Thursday's contest.

 

The Statesmen will host the Fighting Saints (0-4) again on March 20 in a doubleheader with the first pitch at 3 p.m.
