PETERSBURG, Va. – After a successful weekend on the road the Richard Bland College softball team will look to extend its winning streak and conference record when they travel to Region X conference foe Surry Community College on Friday, March 3 for a 3 p.m. first pitch at the Fisher River Complex.

The Statesmen are coming off their tenth Region X Conference win of the season, taking four games total including two wins from Florence-Darlington Tech (9-3, 9-1) and two victories against Southeastern CC - Whiteville (6-1, 4-1).

The wins for Richard Bland moved the Statesmen up in the NJCAA poll one spot to No. 13 for DII softball and a number one spot in conference standings.

Freshman pitcher Kristin Saunders (New Kent, VA) was impressive over the weekend against the Lady Stingers and Lady Rams. Saunders tossed five innings of work against Florence-Darlington Tech and seven innings of work against Southeastern, allowing one earned run, walking one and striking out seven.

Hayley Boykin (Courtland, VA) leads the team with a .500 batting average, while Amanda Archer (Amelia, VA) nods a .418 and Kim Ellis (Chesterfield, VA) at .387 on the season.

Surry enters the contest with an overall record of 14-5 on the year and 4-0 in the league that includes a nine-game win-streak with all nine games being victories on their home field.

The Lady Knights are led by Rachel Wagoner who holds a .424 batting average, while Lacey Grubbs and Kelsie Griffin follow with a .420 and .417 clip, respectively.

Last season, the Statesmen won 3-of-4 of the regular season games before dropping to the Lady Knights in the Region X semi-final round.
