WASH EARNS PAIR OF WINS AS SOFTBALL TAKES TWO ON SOPHOMORE DAY

PETERSBURG, Va., (April 15, 2016) – The Richard Bland College softball reached the .500 mark for the first time this season, by virtue of an 18-2 and 17-1 Region X Conference doubleheader sweep over Wake Tech Community College on Friday afternoon at Statesmen Field.

The victories, earned on Sophomore Day for Richard Bland, even the Statesmen at 15-15 on the season and improve the teams Region X Conference record to 11-3. Wake Tech falls to 3-11, 1-10. Richard Bland has a quick turnaround, as the team travels to Surry Community College for a doubleheader on Saturday at Noon.

The Statesmen scored 16 runs in the first three innings en route to the 5-inning victory. Freshman Brittany Wash earned her first win of the season, limiting the Eagles to just three hits.

After falling behind 1-0 after Wake Tech's first at bat, RBC scored nine runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control of the game. Three RBC sophomores, Hannah Barnes, Kimberly Ellis and Mackenzie Babb all had two hits each for RBC, with Barnes driving in three RBI. Six of Richard Bland's 10 hits were doubles.

The second game of the doubleheader mirrored the first game. The Statesmen broke out early, scoring 16 runs in the first two innings en route to the 5-inning victory.

Wash earned her second victory in as many starts, throwing a complete-game, six-hit offering. Richard Bland banged out four extra base hits in the contest, including a home run from sophomore Mikie Williams.

Babb powered the offense with three hits, with Ellis, Clements and fellow sophomore Abby Eichelberger each getting a pair.
