CLEMENTS NAMED REGION X CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

BURLINGTON, N.C. (May 6, 2016) -- Was it her impeccable infielding and sure hands? Was it that she raised her batting average more than 50 points in the final three weeks of the season? Perhaps it was a combination of the two merged with a phenomenal softball pedigree. In any case, sophomore infielder Whitney Clements was named the Region X Conference Player of the Year in voting by the conference coaches.

Clements, from Prince George, VA., led the Statesmen in hitting with a .414 average, a mark that saw her go on a torrid hitting streak over the final three weeks of the season to increase her average by more than 50 points.

Clements was an imposing presence at the plate during the 2016 campaign. She cracked five doubles and three triples and had a .485 on base percentage, best on the team. She had 14 games with two or more hits.

In the field, she had 282 putouts, 14 assists and only seven errors for a .977 fielding average.

Currently, Clements has a .373 career batting average with 87 hits and 54 RBI. She boasts a .502 slugging percentage and a .454 on base percentage.

Clements is 2014 graduate of Prince George High School in Prince George, VA., where she earned four varsity letters in softball.
