Richard Bland Names August Ringer Athlete of the Week

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College sophomore softball standout catcher August Ringer/Yale has been named the Athletics Department's Athlete of the Week for the period January 25-31.  She led the Statesmen during their season-opening games played at the JUCO Kickoff Classic January 27-28 in Clearwater, Florida.  Ringer hit .313 with one run scored in five games, including .455 (5-11) in the final three games of the prestigious junior college tournament.

Ringer was 1-3 with a run against State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota on Jan. 28, before finishing 2-4 against both Florida State College at Jacksonville and Miami Dade College, also on Jan. 28.

Ringer has attained a 3.20 grade point average toward her Associate in Science Degree, which she is scheduled to obtain in May.  She plans to pursue a specialized Emergency Medical Sciences degree at Fayetteville Technical Community College in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Q: How does it feel to be named Richard Bland Athlete of the Week?
AR: It is very exciting, especially with this being my last year playing softball at Richard Bland.

Q: How did you get started in your sport and how long have you played?
AR: My mom encouraged me to begin playing softball, and I have now been playing for 14 years.

Q: What do you like most about your team?
AR: I like the way that all of our personalities have grown together and we've become so close.

Q: Who is your funniest teammate/why?
AR: Tabby (Dabney), because of her upbeat and goofy personality, and all of the faces that she makes.

Q: Do you have any pregame rituals/superstitions?
AR: The only superstition that I have is crossing bats, which is a big no.  My only pregame ritual is picturing how I want my game to go in my mind.

Q: What is your favorite place on campus/why?
AR: Our coaches' office because they are always open to talk about everything and there are always laughs being shared.

Q: What is your favorite class/professor/why?
AR: My chemistry class from last semester because I have always been interested in chemical compounds and how they react with each other.
