Richard Bland Welcomes Pitt (N.C.) On Saturday At Noon

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College will welcome Region 10 opponent Pitt (N.C.) Community College on Saturday, April 1 for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. at the RBC Softball Field.  The Statesmen are 11-14 overall, 9-3 in Region 10, currently in first place among the seven region schools competing in the sport.  The Bulldogs are 11-9 overall, 8-4 in Region 10, currently in third place.

Scouting the Statesmen
Richard Bland is 11-14 overall after sweeping a road doubleheader at Wake Technical (N.C.) Community College on March 30 (15-1 [5], 13-4 [6]).  The Statesmen are coached by head coach Katy Lampman, who is in her first season, while assisted by first-year assistant coaches Cassidy Clayton, Pete Berrios and Danielle Beverly.

Through 25 games, Richard Bland has been led offensively by sophomore Tabby Dabney/Mechanicsville, who is hitting .458 with four home runs, one triple, six doubles, 21 runs, 25 RBIs and three stolen bases.  Dabney is followed by freshmen Brooklynn Bilyard/Culpeper (.455, 4 HRs, 6 2Bs, 19 Rs, 19 RBIs, 6 SBs), Kara Morris/Kents Store (.432, 1 2B, 16 Rs, 2 RBIs, 4 SBs), Taylor Daniel/Alberta (.370, 1 3B, 4 2Bs, 20 Rs, 7 RBIs, 2 SBs) and Kay'Lee Justice/Suffolk (.347, 4 HRs, 2 3Bs, 7 2Bs, 19 Rs, 22 RBIs, 1 SB), along with sophomore August Ringer/Yale (.326, 2 3Bs, 19 Rs, 6 RBIs, 5 SBs).

The Statesmen pitching staff has been led by sophomore Shannon Buffington/Virginia Beach and Tabby Dabney.  Buffington is 4-7 with a 4.46 earned run average and 25 strikeouts over 59.2 innings with six complete games in 13 appearances, including 11 starts.  Dabney is 4-4 with a 4.68 earned run average and 34 strikeouts over 55.1 innings with five complete games in 14 appearances, including nine starts.

Series History
Richard Bland and Pitt are playing for just the eighth and ninth times in the sport of softball, and the Bulldogs currently lead the series at 4-3.  The two schools played just once last season, as the Statesmen defeated Pitt by a score of 6-5 in nine innings on March 4, 2016.

Ironically, Richard Bland will travel to play on the road at Pitt Community College next Wednesday, April 5 at 4 p.m. in Winterville, North Carolina.  The Statesmen return home to welcome Region 10 member Florence-Darlington (S.C.) Technical College (currently second in Region 10) for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 8 at 12 p.m. at the RBC Softball Field.
