Richard Bland Places Four On NJCAA All-Region 10 Softball Team

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland placed four individuals on the 2018 All-Region 10 Softball Team, as announced over the weekend at the NJCAA Division II, Region 10, District F Championship.  Statesmen freshmen Katie Haney/Burkeville and Mary Simms/Orange were each selected to the All-Region 10 First Team, while sophomore Ashley Fritz/Chesterfield and freshman Megan Vincent/Boykins were each named to the All-Region 10 Second Team.

Katie Haney was voted to the First Team as an infielder.  A second baseman, she started 35 of 37 games and hit .396 with three home runs, four triples and 11 doubles, scoring 35 runs with 25 RBIs and 18 stolen bases.  Haney added a .660 slugging percentage, a .417 on base percentage and an .848 fielding percentage.

Mary Simms was also voted to the First Team as an infielder.  A first baseman, she started 44 of 46 games and hit .403 with seven home runs, three triples and 20 doubles, scoring 41 runs with 41 RBIs and six stolen bases.  Simms added a .708 slugging percentage, a .435 on base percentage and a .978 fielding percentage.  Mary led the team in hits (62), home runs, doubles, RBIs, total bases (109) and slugging percentage.

Ashley Fritz was voted to the Second Team as an outfielder.  She started 40 of 42 games and hit .352 with six home runs, six triples and seven doubles, scoring 35 runs with 29 RBIs and seven stolen bases.  Fritz added a .648 slugging percentage, a .424 on base percentage and a .957 fielding percentage.

Megan Vincent was voted to the Second Team as a pitcher.  A right-hander, she was 10-7 with a 2.35 earned run average and 86 strikeouts over 110.1 innings with seven complete games and three shutouts in 26 appearances, including 16 starts and three saves.  Megan led the pitching staff in ERA, innings, complete games, shutouts, appearances and saves, while tied for wins and strikeouts.

Florence-Darlington Tech (S.C.) swept the top awards as sophomore infielder Shelby Cox was selected as the Region 10 Player of the Year, classmate Marissa Tyndall was chosen as the Pitcher of the Year and head coach Heber Watson was named the Region 10 Coach of the Year.
