Softball Earns Split With Dolphins and Rams

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College softball team moves to 2-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play after traveling to Brunswick Community College Friday afternoon, and Southeastern Community College-Whiteville Saturday afternoon.

 

In game one against Brunswick Community College, Emma Fleming showed timely hitting driving in five on three hits to lead Richard Bland past Brunswick, 15-6. Fleming drove in runs on a double in the second, a groundout in the third, and a triple in the sixth. Richard Bland got on the board in the first inning. Casey Hart's sac fly scored one run for the Statesmen. Richard Bland collected 10 hits in the high-scoring affair. Fleming, Lily Curtis, and Shelby Godfrey all managed multiple hits for Richard Bland. Jenna Nicolski was credited with the victory for the Statesmen. Nicolski went two innings, allowing three runs on six hits and walking one. Casey Hart started game for Richard Bland. The lefty went four innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out five. Richard Bland hit two home runs on the day. Curtis went yard in the third and sixth innings.

 

In game two against Brunswick Community College, a walk-off left Richard Bland on the wrong end of a 10-9 defeat to the Dolphins. The game was tied at nine with Brunswick batting in the bottom of the seventh when a Dolphin grounded out, scoring one run. Richard Bland got on the board in the first inning when Shelby Godfrey homered on a 2-0 count, scoring three runs. Richard Bland tallied three runs in the fourth inning. The Statesmen big bats were led by Jenna Nicolski, Godfrey, and Gracie Fisher, all sending runners across the plate with rbis in the inning. Brunswick evened things up at nine in the bottom of the sixth. Jayanna Richards started the game for Richard Bland. The righthander lasted five innings, allowing ten hits and five runs while striking out five. Casey Hart threw on and one-third innings out of the bullpen.

 

In game one against Southeastern, Richard Bland took the lead late in the game in a 10-7 victory over the Rams. The game was tied at six with Richard Bland batting in the top of the seventh when Shelby Godfrey homered on a 3-1 count, scoring four runs. Godfrey led Richard Bland to victory by driving in four runs. Godfrey went 2-for-4 at the place. Godfrey drove in runs on a grand slam in the seventh. Lily Curtis started the game for Richard Bland. The lefty went four and a third innings, allowing four runs on ten hits, striking out two and walking zero. Jayanna Richards was credited with the victory for Richard Bland. The righthander allowed four hits and three runs over two and two-third innings, striking out one and walking zero. Richard Bland totaled 17 hits in the game. Casey Hart, Emma Fleming, Godfrey, Gracie Fisher, and Emmalee Lawson each racked up multiple hits for the Statesmen. Hart went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead the Statesmen in hits.

 

In game two against Southeastern, Richard Bland watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 2-10 loss to the Rams. The Statesmen struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Southeastern, giving up ten runs. Emma Fleming led Richard Bland with two hits in three at bats. Casey Hart was in the pitcher's circle for the Statesmen. Hart allowed two hits and five runs. Jayanna Richards and Jenna Nicolski entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two and two-thirds innings and two innings respectively.

 

The Richard Bland College softball team next hosts Wake Technical Community College on Thursday, March 9th in a 3pm doubleheader.
