Godfrey Shines in Softball Victory Over Wake Tech

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College softball team moves to 3-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play after hosting Wake Technical Community College Thursday afternoon in a conference doubleheader.

 

In game one, Richard Bland lost the lead late in a 6-9 loss to Wake Tech. The game was tied at three with Wake Tech batting in the top of the fifth when an error scored one run for the Eagles. After Wake Tech scored three runs in the top of the sixth, Richard Bland answered with three of their own. Wake Tech scored on a single. Richard Bland answered when Jessica Taggart singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs and Jahaira Medrano double on a 1-0 count, scoring one run. Richard Bland collected eight hits in the loss. Shelby Godfrey led at the plate for the Statesmen with two hits in three at bats. Jayanna Richards was in the pitcher's circle for Richard Bland. Richards lasted five innings, allowing six hits and six runs while striking out one and walking zero. Jenna Nicolski threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

 

In game two, Shelby Godfrey would not be denied at the plate when runners were on base, driving in five runs on three hits to lead Richard Bland past Wake Tech 14-3 in six innings. Godfrey drove in runs on a double in the fourth and a grand slam in the sixth. Richard Bland fired up the offense in the first inning scoring two runs when Gracie Fisher singled. Richard Bland notched six runs in the sixth inning. The Statesmen totaled 14 hits. Godfrey, Fleming, Curtis, and Hart all managed multiple hits in the win. Godfrey went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Richard Bland. Casey Hart led things off on the rubber for the Statesmen. The southpaw lasted six innings, allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out four and walking zero.

 

The Richard Bland College softball team next travels to Catawba Valley Community College on Saturday, March 11th for a 2pm doubleheader.
