Softball Struggles on the Road

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College softball team moves to 3-7 overall and 3-5 in conference play after traveling to Catawba Valley Community College Saturday afternoon.

 

In game one, Richard Bland watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 0-7 loss to Catawba Valley on Saturday. Richard Bland struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing the Red Hawks giving up seven runs. Casey Hart, Jayanna Richards, and Gracie Fisher each collected one hit to lead Richard Bland. Richards took the loss for the Statesmen. The righthander went six innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits, striking out six and walking one.

 

In game two, Richard Bland struggled to get their offense going. Richard Bland opened up scoring in the first inning. An error scored one run for the Statesmen. Catawba Valley pulled away for good with five runs in the second inning. Richard Bland saw the ball well, racking up six hits in the game. Jordyn Hester homered in the fourth inning. Hester and Lily Curtis each collected two hits to lead the Statesmen at the plate. Casey Hart was in the pitcher's circle. The pitcher went one and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on two hits and striking out one. Jayanna Richards threw two and a third innings out of the bullpen.

 

After Sunday's doubleheader postponement at Cleveland Community College the Richard Bland College softball team next hosts Southwest Virginia Community College on Saturday, March 18th in a 12pm doubleheader. If a make-up date becomes available for the Cleveland Community College doubleheader, it will be shared.
