Late Scoring Costs Softball Against Flying Eagles

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College softball team moves to 3-9 overall and 3-7 in conference play after hosting Southwest Virginia Community College Friday afternoon.

 

In game one, Richard Bland lost the lead late in a 7-8 defeat to Southwest Virginia Community College. Richard Bland took an early lead in the second inning. Richard Bland tallied six runs in the second inning. The big inning was thanks to home runs by Lily Curtis and Casey Hart, and a single by Emma Fleming. The game was tied at seven with the Flying Eagles batting In the top of the seventh inning when a groundout scored one run. Richard Bland racked up nine hit. Shelby Godfrey and Fleming each managed multiple hits for the Statesmen. Richard Bland was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Gracie Fisher had the most chances in the field with 12. Hart took the loss for Richard Bland. The pitcher went seven innings, allowing eight runs on 13 hits and striking out three.

 

Game two was a heartbreaker for Richard Bland, as they lost the lead late in a 4-7 defeat. Richard Bland got things moving in the first inning. Casey Hart drove in one on a single. The game was tied at four with Southwest batting in the top of the sixth inning when the Flying Eagles grounded out, scoring one run. Richard Bland racked up eight hits in the game. Hart and Catherine Bodsford each had multiple hits for the Statesmen. Hart went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the offense. Jenna Nicolski took the loss for Richard Bland. The righthander allowed one hit and one run over one and two-thirds innings, walking zero. Jayanna Richards started the game in the circle. The Richard Bland College softball team next hosts Pitt Community College on Tuesday, March 21st in a 3pm doubleheader.
