Softball Splits with Trojans

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College softball team moves to 5-11 overall and 5-9 in conference play after traveling to Fayetteville Technical Community College Friday afternoon.

 

In game one, Richard Bland lost the lead late in a 11-13 defeat to Fayetteville Tech. FTCC was down 11-10 in the bottom of the sixth inning when an error scored three runs for the Trojans. Richard Bland took an early lead in the second inning. Lily Curtis drove in two when she doubled The Statesmen put up five runs in the third inning. Madison Nixon, Jessica Taggart, Catherine Bodsford, Emma Fleming, and Curtis powered the big inning with rbis. In the bottom of the fourth, FTCC tied things up at 10 on a single, scoring one run. Richard Bland collected 26 hits in the high-scoring affair. Gracie Fisher, Casey Hart, and Bodsford each collected three hits to lead the offense. Maggie Linthicum was on the rubber for Richard Bland. The pitcher lasted two innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out three. Curtis, Casey Hart, and Jenna Nicolski each contributed in relief for Richard Bland.

 

In game two, Richard Bland stole the lead late and defeated FTCC 16-11 in the nightcap. The game was tied at eight with the Statesmen batting in the top of the fifth when an error scored two runs for the Statesmen. Shelby Godfrey led Richard Bland to victory by driving in four runs. Godfrey went 3-for-5 at the plate. Godfrey drove in runs on a single in the first, a double in the second, and a single in the seventh. Richard Bland put up five runs in the seventh inning. Godfrey, Gracie Fisher, Jessica Taggart, and Jahaira Medrano all contributed in the big inning with rbis. Richard Bland scattered 18 hits in the game. Jenna Nicolski helped lead the offense with four hits in four at bats. Maggie Linthicum toed the rubber. The righthander lasted two and a third innings, allowing four hits and four runs.

 

The Richard Bland College softball team next travels to Louisburg College on Sunday, March 26th for a 1pm doubleheader.
