Softball Splits with Bobcats on the Road

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College softball team moves to 6-14 overall and 6-12 in conference play after traveling to Bryant & Stratton College (VA) Wednesday afternoon.

 

In game one, both teams were strong on the rubber, but the Statesmen prevailed in a 2-1 victory over the Bobcats. Jayanna Richards led the Statesmen to victory in the circle. The righty allowed six hits and one run over seven innings, striking out two and walking zero. Shelby Godfrey went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Richard Bland in hits.

 

In game two, even though Richard Bland collected nine hits, they still fell 5-8 in the nightcap. Richard Bland got things started in the first inning. Shelby Godfrey doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run. The Bobcats knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the first inning when one run scored on a double. After Richard Bland scored two runs in the top of the fourth, Bryant & Stratton answered with two of their own. The Statesmen scored when Emma Fleming singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run and Godfrey singled, scoring one run. Godfrey, Gracie Fisher, and Lily Curtis each collected two hits to lead the Statesmen offense. Richard Bland was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Curtis had the most chances in the field with four. Casey Hart was on the rubber for Richard Bland. The southpaw lasted four innings, allowing seven hits and eight runs while striking out two.

 

The Richard Bland College softball team next hosts Southeastern Community College-Whiteville on Friday, March 30th in a 1pm doubleheader.
