Softball Claims Lead Late in Split with Rams

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College softball team moves to 7-15 overall and 7-13 in conference play after hosting the Rams of Southeastern Community College-Whiteville, Friday afternoon.

 

In game one, Richard Bland stayed in it until the end, but Southeastern pulled away late in a 4-12 defeat. The game was tied at four with the Rams batting in the top of the sixth when an error scored one run for the Rams. Richard Bland racked up 10 hits. Emma Fleming, Gracie Fisher, and Jenna Nicolski each collected two hits to lead the offense. Jayanna Richards started the game for Richard Bland. The righthander allowed six hits and six runs over five innings, striking out four and walking one. Casey Hart threw one inning in relief.

 

In game two, Richard Bland took the lead late and defeated Southeastern 10-8 in the nightcap. Richard Bland got the offense started in the first inning when two runs scored on a Jenna Nicolski single. The game was tied at seven with the Statesmen batting in the bottom of the fifth when Shelby Godfrey tripled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs. Richard Bland built a five-run lead in the fourth innings and then held off the Ram's charge. Southeastern tallied seven runs in the failed comeback. Richard Bland collected 11 hits. Nicolski, Godfrey, and Jessica Taggart each collected two hits to lead the offense. Maggie Linthicum was in the pitcher's circle for the Statesmen. Linthicum allowed five hits and six runs over four innings, striking out two.

 

The Richard Bland College softball team next hosts Brunswick Community College on Sunday, April 2nd in a 12pm doubleheader.
