Hurricanes Outlast Statesmen in Softball Doubleheader

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College softball team moves to 7-19 overall and 7-17 in conference play after hosting Louisburg College Wednesday afternoon.

 

In game one, Richard Bland fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 1-12 loss to the Hurricanes. Richard Bland struggled to contain the high-powered offense of the Hurricanes, giving up 12 runs. Louisburg got things moving in the first inning. Jessica Taggart, Gracie Fisher, and Emma Fleming all had one hit to lead the Statesmen offense. Jayanna Richards led things off in the circle for Richard Bland. The pitcher surrendered ten runs on seven hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out five. Maggie Linthicum threw one-third of an inning out of the bullpen.

 

In game two, Richard Bland stayed in it until the end, but Louisburg pulled away late in a 2-4 loss. The game was tied at two with Louisburg batting in the top of the fifth when the Hurricanes homered on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs. Jessica Taggart, Jenna Nicolski, Jayanna Richards, and Emma Fleming each managed one hits to lead Richard Bland. Casey Hart was in the circle for Richard Bland. The lefthander surrendered four runs on seven hits over four and a third innings, striking out one. Lily Curtis threw two and two-thirds innings in relief.

 

The Richard Bland College softball team next hosts Catawba Valley Community College on Friday, April 7th. The doubleheader will begin at 3pm.
