Strong Offense Leads Softball to Victory

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College softball team moves to 9-21 overall and 9-19 in conference play after traveling to Southwest Virginia Community College Saturday afternoon.

 

In game one, Richard Bland walked away victorious over the Flying Eagles in a 9-6 win. Southwest took an early lead in the second inning when a single drove in one run. Richard Bland took the lead for good with six runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Jayanna Richards doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. An error scored three runs for Richard Bland, Casey Hart double on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, and Gracie Fisher singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Richard Bland tallied 17 hits. Hart, Lily Curtis, Emma Fleming, Fisher, Jessica Taggart, and Jenna Nicolski each racked up multiple hits for the Statesmen. Hart led with four hits in five at bats. Hart took the win in the circle for Richard Bland. The lefty allowed ten hits and six runs over seven innings, striking out one and walking one.

 

In game two, Jenna Nicolski drove in four runs on two hits to lead Richard Bland past Southwest Virginia Community College, 8-1. Nicolski drove in runs on a home run in the fifth and a home run in the seventh. Casey Hart went deep in the sixth inning. Richard Bland had 12 hits in the game. Emma Fleming, Nicolski, Hart, and Lily Curtis each collected two hits to lead the offense. Jayanna Richards earned the victory in the pitcher's circle for the Statesmen. The righthander surrendered one run on four hits over seven innings, striking out two.

 

The Richard Bland College softball team next travels to Pitt Community College on Tuesday, April 18th for a 3pm conference doubleheader.
