Softball Drops Two to Bobcats

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Softball team moves to 1-5 overall, 1-4 in conference play and after traveling to Bryant & Stratton College (VA) Saturday afternoon. Due to weather and field conditions, only game one and part of game two was played Saturday. The remainder of game two of the series and game three were rescheduled for February 27th. The Statesmen and Bobcats were able to complete the second game, however, game three was halted in the second inning due to weather once again. If game three is unable to be played by Thursday, it will be considered a no-contest event and will not hurt either team's records.

In game one, Richard Bland fell 4-5 to the Bobcats despite out-hitting them 10 to four. The Bobcats got on the board in the third inning, but the Statesmen captured the 4-1 lead in the top of the fourth when Abbie McGee singled, scoring one run, McKynzi Dawson singled, scoring two runs, and an error scored one run. McGee led Richard Bland with one run batted in. The infielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Richard Bland had a strong eye at the plate, collecting five walks. Dawson took the loss for Richard Bland. The starting pitcher went four and one-third innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on four hits, striking out two and walking two.

In game two, Richard Bland lost to the Bobcats 2-5 Tuesday afternoon. Jessica Taggart and Shelby Godfrey were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for the Statesmen. Taggart kept fighting in the lineup and homered to right field, scoring two runs in the top of the seventh, but it was not enough. Elexyona Moore led things off in the circle for Richard Bland. Moore surrendered three hits and three runs over two innings, striking out two and walking three.

If game three is not rescheduled, the Richard Bland College softball team will next host Fayetteville Technical Community College on Friday, March 1st for games one and two, and Saturday, March 2nd for game three of the conference series.
