Softball Falls After Strong Showing by Hurricanes

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Softball team moves to 7-11 overall, 7-10 in conference play after traveling to Louisburg College on Sunday, March 24

 

In game one, the Hurricanes scored one run in the second, four in the third, and six runs in the fourth inning to defeat the Statesmen 1-11. Shelby Godfrey and Brookelynne Winterson each collected one hit for Richard Bland. Elexyona Moore took the loss for Richard Bland. The starter went four innings, surrendering 11 runs on six hits, striking out five and walking four.

 

In game two, Richard Bland struggled to keep up with the Hurricanes and fell 2-13 in the opening game. Louisburg jumped out into the lead in the bottom of the first inning after three home runs and an error, totaling five runs. Louisburg extended their lead with three runs in the bottom of the second, and five more in the fourth. Jessica Taggart and Brookelynne Winterson each collected two hits for the Statesmen. Winterson led with two runs batted in. The outfielder went 2-for-2 on the day. McKynzi Dawson stepped in the circle first for Richard Bland. The right-handed pitcher gave up eight hits and eight runs over one and one-third innings, striking out none and walking one. Taylor Green took the loss for Richard Bland. Green went two and two-thirds innings, surrendering five runs on four hits, striking out four and walking three.

 

In game three, Richard Bland fell 2-11 as the Hurricanes took another early lead in the bottom of the first inning, jumping ahead by four. The Statesmen put on the board in both the third and fourth innings but it was not enough. Shelby Godfrey led Richard Bland with two hits in three at bats. Taylor Green and Godfrey each drove in one run for the Statesmen. Elexyona Moore led things off in the circle for Richard Bland. The righty surrendered six hits and 11 runs over four innings, striking out four and walking 12.

 

The Richard Bland College softball team next travels to Southeastern Community College-Whiteville on Friday, March 29th for game one of the series at 2pm. Games two and three will take place on Saturday, March 30th in an 11am doubleheader.
