Women’s Basketball Opens Season with Big Win

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team moves to 1-0 overall, 1-0 in conference play after traveling to Central Carolina Community College Saturday afternoon for their season opener against the Cougars.

 

The Statesmen opened the first quarter outscoring the Roadrunners 22-6 and would lead 37-9 at the half. Richard Bland would score 11 in the third, and 23 in the fourth, to take down Central Carolina 71-30 in the opening game of the 2023-24 season. Congratulations to Head Coach, Todd Sheeko, as he earns his first win at the helm.

 

Four Statesmen had double-digit points in the victory. Kennedee Matthews led the way for the Statesmen with 25 points, four steals, and two rebounds. Cierra McGinlay tallied 11 points, two steals, one rebound, and one assist. Chamara Martin pitched in with adding 10 points, five assists, and four steals. Off the bench, Anaya Lilly added 10 points, five steals, three rebounds, and one assist. Shileyia Williams was credited with 10 steals, eight points, five rebounds, and two assists.

 

The Richard Bland College women's basketball team next hosts Southwest Virginia Community College on Saturday, November 11th in a 1pm conference contest.
