Women’s Basketball Comeback Falls Short in Home Opener

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team moves to 1-1 overall, 1-1 in conference play after hosting the Flying Eagles of Southwest Virginia Community College Saturday afternoon.

 

After a slow start, trailing 7-21 after the opening period, the Statesmen picked up the offense and added 15 points in the second quarter, to narrow the 38-22 Flying Eagles lead into the half. Richard Bland went on to score 15 in the third, and 20 in the fourth, but fell short at the final buzzer.

 

Two Statesmen had double-digit points in the victory. Alia Carmichael led the way for Richard Bland with 15 points, three rebounds, and one steal. Shileyia Williams followed behind closely with 12 points, seven rebounds, and two steals. Kennedee Matthews and Nyomi Ndango matched with seven points each while also combing for nine rebounds, four assists, three steals, and two blocks. Cierra McGinlay and Khamaya Earley tallied six points each. McGinlay also added two rebounds and one steal, while Earley was credited with five boards and one block.

 

Richard Bland shot 57.1% from the charity stripe and 43.3% from the field in the loss.

 

The Richard Bland College women's basketball team next travels to Wake Technical Community College on Wednesday, November 15th for a 5:30pm conference contest.
