Matthews Explodes For 34 Points in Women’s Basketball Win

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team moves to 2-2 overall, 2-2 in conference play after hosting the Dolphins of Brunswick Community College Friday evening.

 

Richard Bland took an early 28-12 lead through 10 minutes of play. The Statesmen went on to outscore the Dolphins 22-5 in the second, for a 50-17 Statesmen lead at the break. Richard Bland outscored the Dolphins by eight in the third quarter, and seven in the fourth quarter, earning an 86-38 victory.

 

Two Statesmen had double-digit points in the victory. Kennedee Matthews had a day, scoring 34 points, bringing down five rebounds, assisting on five buckets, and earning one steal. Nyomi Ndango tallied her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 boards. Ndango also had four assists, three blocks, and one steal. Off the bench, Anaya Lilly added nine points and two rebounds. Alia Carmichael and Chamara Martin were credited with seven points each, and also totaled 10 assists and five rebounds together.

 

Richard Bland shot 80.0% from the charity stripe, 46.4% from the field, and 39.3% from the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College women's basketball team next travels to Guilford Technical Community College on Sunday, November 19th for a 3pm conference contest.
