Buzzer Beater by Matthews Seals Win for Statesmen

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team moves to 3-2 overall, 3-2 in conference play after traveling to Guilford Technical Community College Sunday afternoon.

 

Richard Bland took an early 15-9 lead through 10 minutes of play. The Titans went on to outscore the Statesmen 23- 9 in the second, for a 32-24 Titan lead at the break. Richard Bland outscored the Titans by eight in the third quarter, and one in the fourth quarter, earning an 59-58 victory. Kennedee Matthews sealed the conference win at the buzzer with a shot from the perimeter.

 

Three Statesmen had double-digit points in the victory. Kennedee Matthews led the way with 21 points, four assists, three rebounds, and two steals. Alia Carmichael tallied 12 points, four assists, three rebounds, and two steals. Chamara Martin added 10 points, three assists, three steals, and one rebound. Cierra McGinlay was credited with eight points and eight boards, while Nyomi Ndango chipped in with eight rebounds, six points, two steals, two blocks, and one assist.

 

Richard Bland shot 71.4% from the charity stripe, 35.5% from the field, and 25.9% from the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College women's basketball team next hosts Cleveland Community College on Monday, November 27th at 6pm.
