Women’s Basketball Comes Out on Top Against Yetis

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team moves to 4-2 overall, 4-2 in conference play after hosting the Yetis of Cleveland Community College Monday evening.

 

After a slow first quarter start, Richard Bland took over in the second quarter outscoring the Yetis by seven, to hold a 30-20 lead at the half. Although Cleveland outscored the Statesmen in the third period, Richard Bland went on to score 20 points in the final period to earn the 64-53 conference win at home.

 

Three Statesmen had double-digit points in the victory. Kennedee Matthews led the way with 15 points, five assists, four rebounds, and one block. Cierra McGinlay tallied 12 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Chamara Martin added 10 points, three rebounds, and one assist. Nyomi Ndango led the boards with 14, and also chipped in with seven points, three assits, three steals, and three blocks.

 

Richard Bland shot 50.0% from the charity stripe, 38.5% from the field, and 28.0% from the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College women's basketball team next travels to Cleveland Community College on Saturday, December 2nd for their second meeting of the season. Tip-off is set for 1pm.
