Balanced Scoring Fuels Women’s Basketball in Win Over Cougars

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team moves to 5-2 overall, 5-2 in conference play after hosting the Cougars of Central Carolina Community College Saturday afternoon.

 

The Statesmen came out hot, outscoring the Cougars 22-10 in the opening frame, and 20-9 in the second to take a 42-19 lead into the break. The Statesmen outscored the Cougars 39-20 in the second half to earn the 81-35 conference win at home.

 

Five Statesmen had double-digit points in the victory. Kennedee Matthews led the way with 20 points, five assists, five steals, and four rebounds. Alia Carmichael and Anaya Lilly tallied 12 points each, while Chamara Martin and Cierra McGinlay chipped in with 11 points each. Nyomi Ndango and Shileyia Williams led the boards with six apiece. Reiley Gibson, Khamaya Earley, and Alicia Powers chipped in with four points each in the all-around team effort.

 

Richard Bland shot 60.0% from the charity stripe, 39.4% from the field, and 32.2% from the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College women's basketball team next travels to Fayetteville Tech Community College on Tuesday, December 12th for a 6pm conference matchup.
