Women’s Basketball Suffers Loss to Trojans

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team moves to 5-3 overall, 5-3 in conference play after traveling to Fayetteville Technical Community College Tuesday evening.

 

The Statesmen began the game on a strong note, outscoring the Trojans 17-12 in the opening frame. The Trojans turned up the heat in the second period outscoring the Statesmen by 10 points, to hold a 35-30 lead over Richard Bland at the half. Richard Bland would add 20 points in the third and 15 in the fourth, but it would not be enough as they fell to the Trojans, 65-68 at the final buzzer.

 

Three Statesmen had double-digit points in the victory. Kennedee Matthews once again led the way with 20 points, five assists, two rebounds, and one steal. Alia Carmichael chipped in with 14 points, three rebounds, one assist, and one steal, while Chamara Martin had 11 points, four assists, three rebounds, and one steal. Off the bench Shileyia Williams and Cierra McGinlay tallied six points each, and Anaya Lilly five for Richard Bland. Williams also brought down eight rebounds in the loss.

 

Richard Bland shot 52.4% from the charity stripe, 40.4% from the field, and 38.7% from the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College women's basketball team next hosts Fayetteville Tech Community College on Saturday, December 16th for the final event of the fall semester. Tip-off is set for 1pm.
