McGinlay Leads Women’s Basketball to Victory Over Trojans

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team moves to 6-3 overall, 6-3 in conference play after hosting the Trojans of Fayetteville Tech in their second meeting of the season, Saturday afternoon.

 

Richard Bland rebounded with a narrow, 73-70 victory over the Trojans, after suffering a late game loss earlier in the week to Fayetteville Technical Community College. The Statesmen took an early 19-11 lead after the first quarter, and held a three point lead heading into the break. Both the Statesmen, and Trojans came out hot in the third quarter dropping 24 and 23 points respectively. The Trojans outscored Richard Bland by one in the fourth quarter, but Richard Bland would come out victorious at the final buzzer.

 

Three Statesmen had double-digit points in the victory. Cierra McGinlay led the way with 21 points, three assists, and two steals. Kennedee Matthews tallied 10 rebounds, 17 points, and six assists. Shileyia Williams added 12 points, nine rebounds, and two assists, while Khamaya Earley chipped in with nine points, five rebounds, and two assists. Chamara Martin and Alicia Powers had seven points each in the win. Powers also brought down nine rebounds on the day.

 

Richard Bland shot 70.4% from the charity stripe, 49.0% from the field, and 37.5% from the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College women's basketball team has a short holiday break before returning for their first game of the spring semester, on Wednesday, January 17th at 5pm. The Statesmen will host the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton College (VA).
