Comeback Attempt Falls Short in Women’s Hoops

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team moves to 6-5 overall, 6-5 in conference play after hosting the Sea Devils of Cape Fear Community College Wednesday evening.

 

After two quarters of play, the Statesmen found themselves trailing by 13 points, 25-38. Although Richard Bland outscored the Sea Devils in the third quarter, the Statesmen came up short in their comeback, dropping a 55-69 defeat at home.

 

Two Statesmen had double-digit points in the victory. Kennedee Matthews led the way with 13 points, six rebounds, two steals, and one assist. Amari Hunter tallied 11 points, four rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Natayvia Lipscomb chipped in with nine points, five rebounds, and two steals, while Cierra McGinlay had seven points, three rebounds, and one assist. Khamaya Earley and Nyomi Ndango had five and four points, and Chamara Martin three in the loss.

 

Richard Bland shot 68.8% from the charity stripe, 30.4% from the field, and 26.9% from the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College women's basketball team next hosts Catawba Valley Community College in a conference matchup on Friday, January 26th. Tip-off is scheduled for 6pm.
