Women’s Basketball Rebounds with Conference Win Over Red Hawks

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team moves to 7-5 overall, 7-5 in conference play after hosting the Red Hawks of Catawba Valley Community College Friday evening.

 

Catawba jumped out to an early two point lead after one, but the Statesmen leveled the score going into the break. Richard Bland came out hot in the third quarter scoring 22 points, and maintaining the lead into the final period. The Statesmen outscored the Red Hawks by two in the fourth period, to hold on for the 66-57 conference win at home.

 

Three Statesmen had double-digit points in the victory. Once again, Kennedee Matthews led the offense with 17 points, grabbed three boards, tallied three assists, and two steals. Amari Hunter added 15 points, five assists, four steals, and three rebounds, while Cierra McGinlay had 13 points, four rebounds, and one assist. Chamara Martin added nine points and three rebounds, and Natayvia Lipscomb added eight points and two boards. Mercedes Gaither, Khamaya Earley, and Reiley Gibson had two points each in the win.

 

Richard Bland shot 68.8% from the charity stripe, 46.9% from the field, and 50.0% from the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College women's basketball team next travels to Johnson Community College on Sunday, January 28th for a 2pm conference contest.
