Women’s Basketball Sweeps Series With Titans

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team moves to 10-5 overall, 10-5 in conference play after hosting Guilford Technical Community College Friday evening.

 

Richard Bland jumped out to an early 17-12 lead after 10 minutes of play. In the second quarter, the Titans and Statesmen tallied 13 points each, to put the Statesmen ahead 30-25 at the break. Richard Bland added 14 points in the third and 19 in the fourth, holding the Titans to under 10 points in both quarters, for a 63-39 conference win at home.

 

Three Statesmen had double-digit figures in the victory. Kennedee Matthews and Cierra McGinlay led the way with 12 points each. Matthews also tallied five rebounds, two assists, and two steals, and McGinlay four rebounds and three assists. Natayvia Lipscomb added 10 points, three rebounds and one assist. Chamara Martin chipped in with eight points, three rebounds, three steals, and 2 assists, while Khamaya Earley had seven points and four rebounds in the win. Amari Hunter and Alicia Powers added four points each, Nyomi Ndango three, and Kaleigh Snipes and Mercedes Gaither two each.

 

Richard Bland shot 86.7% from the charity stripe, 88.0% from the field, and 100.0% from the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College women's basketball team next travels to Catawba Valley Community College on Sunday, February 11th and Cleveland Community College Monday, February 12th for a rescheduled contest. Tip-off against the Red Hawks is set for 1pm, and 3pm against the Yetis.
