Women’s Basketball Defeats Jags in Nail Biter

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team moves to 13-5 overall, 13-5 in conference play after hosting Johnston Community College Thursday evening in a nail biter.

 

Richard Bland got out to a hot start outscoring the Jaguars 21-16 in the opening period. The Statesmen added 25 points in the second quarter to hold a 46-36 lead at the break. The Jags fought back in the second half narrowing the Statesmen lead by adding 17 points in the third, just one short of matching the Statesmen, and outscoring the Statesmen by 10 in the final period. Richard Bland held on through the final whistle to earn an 83-82 conference victory at home.

 

Four Statesmen had double-digit figures in the win led by Kennedee Matthews and Amari Hunter with 18 points each. Matthews also tallied three steals and two rebounds, and Hunter added five rebounds, four assists, and four steals in the win. Cierra McGinlay chipped in with 13 points, two boards, and one assist, while Natayvia Lipscomb was credited with 12 points, three rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block. Khamaya Earley tallied nine points, four rebounds, and one steal for Richard Bland. Chamara Martin chipped in with six points, Nyomi Ndango three, and Alicia Powers and Kaleigh Snipes had two each.

 

Richard Bland shot 69.6% from the charity stripe, 50.8% from the field, and 38.9% from the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College women's basketball team next travels to Bryant & Stratton College (VA) on Monday, February 19th for their second meeting of the season. Tip-off is set for 5:30pm.
