Slow Second Quarter Costs Statesmen in Home Defeat

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team moves to 15-9 overall, 15-9 in conference play after hosting Louisburg College Friday evening, in the final game of the regular season.

 

Richard Bland jumped out to an early 18-9 first quarter lead, but the momentum dropped immensely in the second quarter with the Statesmen only adding six points, to trail 24-31 at the break. Richard Bland picked up the energy in the third and fourth adding 47 points in the second half, but it was not enough at the final buzzer.

 

Three Statesmen tallied double-digit figures in the win led by Amari Hunter with 28 points, six steals, three assists, and two rebounds. Kennedee Matthews tallied 14 points, two steals, and one rebound, and Nyomi Ndango added 11 points, six rebounds, and two steals. Off the bench, Khamaya Earley chipped in with six points and two rebounds. Cierra McGinlay had four points, Chamara Martin three, and Natayvia Lipscomb, Alicia Powers, and Mercedes Gaither two each.

 

Richard Bland shot 71.4% from the charity stripe, 38.8% from the field, and 27.8% from the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College women's basketball team next hosts the first round of the Region 10 Tournament on Monday, March 4th at 6pm. Finals seedings will be announced soon.
