Women’s Basketball Advances to Region Quarterfinals with Total Team Effort Over Yetis

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team moves to 16-9 overall after hosting Cleveland Community College in the Region 10 Division II Tournament First Round Monday evening.

 

Richard Bland showed confidence early on tacking on 26 points in the first and 35 in the second to lead 61-31 at the break. Richard Bland added another 19 points in the third and 17 in the fourth to hold on for the 97-58 win over the Yetis.

 

Four Statesmen tallied double-digit figures in the full team win led by Kennedee Matthews with 23 points, three assists, three steals, and one rebound. Cierra McGinlay tallied 20 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Chamara Martin tallied 14 points, three steals, two steals, and one rebound, while Amari Hunter had 13 points, four steals, and three assists. Off the bench, Alicia Powers and Reiley Gibson scored six points each. Powers also grabbed six rebounds in the win. Natayvia Lipscomb, Mercedes Gaither, and Nyomi Ndango chipped in with four points each, and Khamaya Earley tallied three on the night.

 

Richard Bland shot 53.8% from the charity stripe, 58.3% from the field, and 56.5% from the perimeter.

 

The #6 seeded Richard Bland College women's basketball team next travels to Brunswick Community College for the Quarterfinals of the Region 10 Division II Tournament. The Statesmen will take on #3 Louisburg College on Thursday, March 7th at 6pm. With a win, the Statesmen would move on to the Semifinals at 4pm on Friday, March 8th.
